Problem could be caused one/more of the following-connectors loose/bad where clutch conn connects to tractor wiring harness, connector loose/bad on pto sw,pto sw going bad,ign sw going bad,if tractor has an auto reset circuit breaker for clutch same may be weak/bad,bad connector or loose internal connection on clutch coil, try disconnecting clutch, check clutch coil with an ohmmeter for a circuit,if you have a circuit(this is only a static test as problem may only show up with eng running & vibration)connect a voltmeter/12v test lite to wiring harness conn for clutch, work back in wiring to pto sw & ign sw and see if you can find where you're loseing voltage to clutch connector,if you don't have wiring diag/elect knowledge to work on same, have jd dealer/local mower shop troubleshoot & repair problem, one other thing you could try, goto www.weekendfreedommachines.com this is a website for jd tractors, join forum & post question on lawn/garden tractor forum, you can probably get a wiring diag there & info/fix for cause of problem, this might be a common problem for yr/mod tractor you have.
