Most/all small engines(kohler, briggs tecumseh)are rh rotation looking at flywheel, the exception is the old kohler K seriers eng(k241-k341) that were used in old ih cub cadets(eng usually painted yellow),these eng were installed in rev compared to rest of tractor mfg, this called for a reverse rotation s/g on eng(starter mounted on pto side of eng),to operate a normal rh rotation input on trans, either eng off a cc or someone installed a cc starter/gen on same & had same problem you now have, best way around this problem is to pull s/g & take to a starter, gen, alt repair shop(if you can still find one local)and have them replace field coils in same & reverse rotation, you might also have to replace vr,other option is goto ebay & get a good used s/g & vr from a wheel horse,jd or sears tractor that used the kohler K series eng or tecumseh hh series eng, some of the old briggs eng also used, but can't remember mod#'s off top of my head,if bought on ebay I advise buying sg/vr from same seller,as sg usually had 3-4 different amp outputs(depending on mod#) & you need vr to match same.
