If battery 3-4/more yrs old check with a hydrometer or remove same & have load tested, you might just have a battery that's going bad & not holding a charge,if battery checks ok or is new,borrow/buy an inline ammeter or vom capable of reading 10A & connect between battery pos(+)terminal & battery cable, with ign sw in off/stop position, see if any draw on battery,if there is,locate & disconnect output lead from rectifer/reg for eng alt,see if reading drops to 0A,if it does then you have a problem in rectifer/regulator,if you still read current draw with reg disconnected, then goto www.kohlerengines.com & download a service manual for your eng,the cv16 eng have a electronic ign module(sam)that controls ign timing, this module is connected to battery all the time, this unit may be defective,in eng manual will give wire colors on module & wiring diag for same, try disconnecting battery lead to same & see if current reading goes to 0A,if not,if tractor has an electric pto(clutch)try disconnecting same, coil may be shorted or contacts in pto sw bad & clutch staying eneregized or ign sw bad
