Depending on mod & age of tractor and make/mod of eng,it sometimes cheaper to get a new tractor,1st thing you have to do is disassemble eng & determine damage & parts needed, the big question is who is going to work on/repair or replace eng,if you do,depending on damage/parts needed, you may save some money by repairing/replaceing eng yourself if you have the mech knowledge/tools,IF you have a shop checkout/repair they will probably replace eng if same has major damage, depending on make/mod eng this could run $500-$800 minus labor, you'll have to decide how much you want to go verus price on a new tractor that is same/similar,you might also check around on ebay, craigs list etc for a good used local eng or tractor that has a bad trans/other problems, but good eng for a low price & use eng from same, bottom line is how much time can you afford to wait & how much you want to go for a new/used tractor.Right now your blowing smoke as you don't know whats wrong/damaged in eng,you have to get inside same & take it from there.Goto www.smallenginewarehouse.com & look in repower section and see if your tractor listed & cost of eng or look at make/mod of engine you have at site to get an idea of price for a new eng.
