In the past week, both my push mower and tractor have started acting up - pretty much determined bad gas.
let's deal with the tractor first.
GTH2654 B&S ELS motor
the tractor started rough idle yesterday - high idle, then slow - as if to stall - and then back to high. If I pulled the PTO switch out, the tractor would stall.
Note- I have no use for the PTO as I do not use the tractor to mow grass.
So today i pulled the carburetor assemble off. Separated the bowl and soaked everything in Gunk for 30 min. The inside of the bowl was dirty as were the chambers. Cleaned everything, reassembled the unit, and started the tractor. Idled nicely - low or high.
When I went to run it out, as soon as I moved to high speed, the motor bogged down as if I had the choke out. It smoked something fierce. If i tried to lower the idle, it would stall. Attached to the bowl is some sort of sensor with two wires. If I disconnected the wire, the idle would increase and then start to stall. I then reconnected the wire and then the idle would run fine - fast or slow. As soon I try to engage the PTO or move the tractor at high idle, the motor would bog down again as if I had the choke out. Pull the wire on the bowl for a second and reattach and it worked fine.
I'm thinking the sensor is bad - any other ideas?
PS. Replaced plugs and fuel filter.
