Craftsman 18HP 42" lawn tractor, when it came out of storage, I put battery in (had kept it charged over winter in basement). It started, but slow crank. Ammeter immediately went right over to the positive side and stayed there. Over the next month, it cranked slower and slower, and then wouldn't. Took battery out,and charged it, but it would not hold charge. Thought battery was cause, so put in new battery today. Cranked and started fine, but ammeter still went hard to positive and stayed there. Is this an alternator problem, or ??? What should I check?
