Looking at transaxle at sears website it appears to be a peerless 800 or 820 series,a common problem on peereless is shift keys & shift detent mech wear,on some models there is a ball/spring adj for detent pressure under a screw next to shifter shaft,if unit has,try tighting same & see if that helps,if not then transaxle will have to be opened up to determine what parts worn/damaged,looking at transaxle from rear clean off rear & right side of case & check for a peerless id tag with mod#,if mod# begins with 800 or 820 goto ebay & search item# 330446401444,this is a cd that covers all tecumseh eng & peerless manual trans,on it will be a disassembly/assembly manual for transaxle
