: : When I turn the key, the starter makes a whining noise but doesn't turn over the engine. Any tricks on getting it to work or do I need to buy a new starter? Thanks for any help.

: Try a little wd40 or other lube on the starter gear. Also the starter gear maybe nylon and striped (just replace the gear).

I would not recommend WD40. It might help initially but in a short while it "dries" out leaving a waxy film and the problem would return as well as attracting more dust and dirt.
