You need to remove the starter and manually turn and pull outward on the drive gear. It rides on a set of splines and is engaged by the rotation of the starter. These splines can get dry or dirty and need cleaned up and lubricated. WD40 is a temporary fix, but will dry up and quit working. It is best to use a lightweight compoud that will stay in the splines for a while. DON'T USE GREASE THAT IS TO HEAVY! It will work against you! If your drive gear is chewed up, have it replaced at a starter repair shop and they wil be able to check out the rest of the starter while they have it. Hope this help's!
