electrical was never my strong suit and actually have always had an aversion to it, but i understood what you're saying
but, at 1100 - 1300 my voltage is showing 12 - 12.5, and the battery is 3-4 yrs old, and still starts the engine fine so i know it's being charged
i'll check it with an ammeter (i've still got a snap on dwell tach that i had when i last mechanic'd in 1974) - it's got an adaptor that separates one of the cables from the battery post
and i'll read the voltage coming off the rectifier
