The impeller blades may be worn and/or the drum may be bowed out. Check the clearance between the impeller and the drum. Put a quarter in the bottom of the drum. If the impeller blades won't pick up the quarter and carry it on edge for a quarter turn to the point of discharge, your clearance is too wide to be effective. The easiest solution is usually to have a band welded to the inside of the drum. Then refit the impeller blades to the drum allowing for about 0.020" clearance.
