another test you can do to check if the coil itself is firing is to hook spark plug on plug wire and ground bottom thread of plug. remove the wire on - side of coil. and take another piece of wire and ground one end and, turn on ign switch and tap - post on coil with other end of the grounded wire. a spark should jump the gap everytime you tap the - post with the grounded wire.
