My understanding was that lubrication was a problem. That's what I heard and seen. I had to put a new motor in mine. The series II motor.
The 318 is the replacement for the 317 because of the motor got a bad reputation. The 318 I believe doesn't have the hydro coupling in the front, but adds power steering.
