plug could still be bad,I would also chech the wires going to the bottom of the carb fuel bowl,assuming your 17.5 is a overhead valve motor,the fuel solenoid may be your problem,they are usually replaced when found that they do not come on when your iginition switch is in the on position(you will hear it make a clicking sound as you turn it on and off)usaully I loosen the solenoid(with the key off) and thread it back in,this makes for a better contact(ground) and then tighten it back up.(poor contact here can be the problem,also the wires can be shoorted somewhere and do the same)
