From what you say you have a manual engage clutch,check engage linkage that it's not sloppy/worn,after that check running gap between clutch plate & clutch body(clutch disengaged),should be approx .016",however I'm not completely sure on this,just going from memory from past posts,adj linkage to get running clearance,try & see if it fix's problem,if it doesn't,clutch lining/clutch may need replacement,maybe Joe bontai will pickup on this reply,he's the local jd guru & that's his domain,if anybody knows about setting's he will.
