Is the muffler aimed at you when operating the tractor? I know a couple of guys that have made custom exhaust systems by piping the exhaust out from under the hood and using a cheap but larger generic car muffler to reduce noise. You can configure it to a vertical stack like a farm tractor and point the discharge away from you, or run it underneath if it will fit and discharge the exhaust out the side or to the rear.
Or...... get yourself a $30 set of noise reducing ear muffs which many (including me) use when ever running loud machinery.
