Briggs and Stratton 17.5 HP Cratsman Lt1000

Ok Cleaned the head and valves And the carb engine runs sweet for about 40 minutes then starts spluttering and then stops, Also a definite loss of ground speed is evident. Fuel line is fine Gas cap is ok Fuel filter is ok and installed right way.Fresh gas in tank + Stabil. Its almost like a overheating issue bore was seen to be fine with no marks or sign of damage.Could it be a problem with the piston rings? Any Ideas please this is driving me crazy :)
