The steering was slipping on my Craftsman LTV10 and I fixed it by putting a collar on the horizontal steering shaft to hold the two steering gears together. I bought the a collar at the hardware store for about $1. I sawed about 1/8" off the side of the collar so the collar's allen screw could get a better grip of the approximately 3/8" of shaft extending to the right of steering assembly (Horizontal shaft). I used clamp to force the two steering gears together causing the horizontal shaft to move to the right as far as possible, and then I installed the modified collar. I tightened the collar and lubricated the collar so it would easily slide against the steering assembly. It has worked perfectly for 10 hours of mowing my rough yard.
