The alt stator used to charge battery is located under flywheel, also on eng will be a rect/regulator or an inline diode in wiring harness of eng/tractor,depending on charging system used, also check at eng & in wiring harness on tractor for a fuse on alt output, briggs sometimes puts a fuse on same, try going to briggs website with mod & type#'s and see if you can download a service/repair manual for your eng or try local mower shop, ebay for service manual that covers your eng,in electrical section will be different charging systems & troubleshooting guide to id bad part.
