Joanne - There is not an alternator on the STX46. The charging system uses a stator (series of magnets) on the flywheel with a pickup coil. This produces AC voltage which is converted to DC voltage by the regulator. It's not a simple three step process to take everything out and replace. What is the problem? What are the symptoms? - Dave
