yeah, gotta get that fitting fixed/replaced. even the least amount of air entry can mess up the fuel pump's function.Until that's fixed, chances are your engine will continue to behave as now.
Another thing after above is finished to make sure of - some Kohler engines are very picky about having the correct fuel filter installed.Check the john deere parts listing or Kohler's IPL for that engine to get correct filter p/n (same may called out on a decal in your engine compartment - some mfgrs provide that.)
