My Sears lawn tractor (new in June '01) sat for about two months. It started fine, but had a lot of lifter noise (hydraulic lifters), which bothered me because its never done that before. After a couple of minutes the noise was worse so I shut it off. Still on warranty so I called the local Sears repair shop and asked them. They said that was normal, just keep running it, it may or may not stop the clatter, but it would be fine. Not satified, I called another repair shop. They said it should clear up in five minutes at most, or there could be something else wrong. I think somehow the oil pump lost prime, or pressure relief valve is stuck open. oil is up to level, and not dirty. It did look a little frothy. Contrary to what the Sears repair shop said, I am not going to run it until I can fix it. Has anybody else had this problem before? I am hesistant to take it to the Sears repair shop; in my opinion, this partiticular shop is staffed with incompetent clowns instead of professional mechanics.
