I know this is a lawn tractor forum, but I have seen a lot of knowledge on this board over the years, so I thought I would post my question here. I have a Craftsman 5600 watt generator with a Briggs 10HP engine. It is now about 5 years old, but only has about 10 hours of operation on it - I only use it when the electric goes out. The problem I have is that after about 10 minutes of running, it shuts off for no apparent reason. Once it shuts off, it is very hard starting and has to sit for about 5 minutes before it will start again. I have noticed that once it shuts off, there is no spark from the spark plug wire (I tested it). Once I get it started again, it runs great for about 10-15 minutes, and then shuts down again, and repeats the pattern. I initially thought that it might be the low oil sensor, so I unplugged the wire from it (the oil is full), and it made no difference. Since there is no spark when it shuts down, I am leaning toward an electrical problem. Are there any other sensors on this such as a temperature sensor? Why would the spark return after about 5 minutes of sitting? Any thoughts or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
