Hi Group,
I wrote previously about a leak under my cylinders. It was a guess it was the valve covers that needed to be tightened.

I tightened the valve covers and whatever bolts were loose.

Today The B&S 20hp intek twin ran great the first hour or so. Then it started to slow down a bit and have a little miss. I was low on gas so I added another tank full. When I turned it off, smoke from like burning oil in the cylinder fins was wafting out through all the covers and vents and fan. I ran it some more then I noticed that it was starting to blow black smoke out of the exhaust, and more so when I was going up a hill or thicker grass. It ran like it was bogging down. It also sounded like it was missing. When I bought this a week ago the previous owner changed the oil, plugs and air filter.

When I stopped it/turned off, to inspect oil leakage, burning oil smoke was pouring out of the muffler.

Another note: most or all the oil that did drip was on the side of the motor with the oil filter. It was all wet under the cylinder(tightened the bolts in the area)Just oozed out when hot.

Guy, tell me this wasn't a $500 mistake??!!

Is it the valves? Adjust carb? Should I have a JD tech/mechanic look at it?

I'm pretty mechanically inclined, so, if not too big of a job I'll do it myself.

Again, I appreciate all the opinions/help in advance.
