Cub Cadet's 1000 series is the same tractor as an entry level Troy-Bilt, Yard Man, Bolens or any other MTD brand except for paint pretty much. The "good" Cubs are the 2500 series and up. Having said that, for a 3/4 acre reasonably flat lawn, it may work well for several years for cutting grass. The Cub offers a hydrostatic transmission, the Sears model you are looking at is a gear transmission. The Cub model will accept a bagger and a snowblower, the Sears model offers neither as attachments. I think the Sears model offers a little better motor for durability, but that's just my opinion. so the 2 models are a little bit of an apples/oranges comparison. At this price level, I'd choose the one that offered the attachments I wanted and had the leg room, ease of lifting the deck, comfy seat, ease of getting on and off, belly room from the steering wheel, and ease of removing the mower deck for maintenance.
