I havecraftsman 42 deck tractor, year? last fall could'nt shift any gears, trans comes apart in 2 halves,(do not remove circlips from pully shaft or gear shift shaft.Trans runs in thick grease only, no oil. If your going to pull this apart check gear position on body, and note orientation of arm shift/rod tie arm where itdrops onto shift shaft ontop of trans 7/16 retaining bolt holds it on.(I didnt do this and had to check on another to refit linkage) Basically despite all the grease, things corrode/ dry out and need freeing up,If your not mechanically inclined don't go this route, it's messy and a pain in the ass .Good luck.
