I just purchased a Craftsman riding mower, was wondering if anyone could tell me what year it was made, what brand of engine it has and perhaps what the original retail price may have been. Model number is 917.254240, serial number is 1057S22991, 12hp, 38" cut. The engine just says "Craftsman" on it, no "Briggs"/"Kohler"/etc. anywhere.
Got it for $250, needs a rear tire and belts plus a tune-up and oil change wouldn't hurt...missing a couple of knobs but no big deal, no rust at all, couple minor dents, runs and cuts just fine but belts look bad. Might need clutch adjusted (Or new owner spoiled by hydrostatics and not used to driving clutch mowers which is more likely ;) -Mike in Frankfort, Kentucky USA-
