if you know how to use a voltmeter/multitester, follow altanator wires to the regulator box. the box is usually mounted on top cover (blower housing )on engine. there will be 3 wires plugged into the regulator box.usually, the center wire is the dc output to battery. remave the 3 wires. 2 of them will show 18-24 volts AC between each one and ground. if you get the readings then, stator unit is good. re-hook up the 2 wires from stator only and start engine again. check for 13-16 volts DC between ground and the pin. if not...then, if possible, keep meter hooked up to output pin somehow and take another piece of wire and ground case of regulator to battery negative. if you get reading then,... the case of regulator lost its ground remove it and clean surface where it mounts. if still no voltage when grounding case, then the regulator is bad and needs replacing. good luck.
