In Reply to: Herculiner for underside deck protection? posted by Mauibuck on Tuesday, November 06, 2001:
: I have a brand new Craftsman LT 1000 which is a replacement for an ancient Lawn Chief that has lived a long and hard life. Big problem is always deck rusting so I think I'll try coating the underside of the new deck with Herculiner. Has anybody else tried that? Any thoughts?

I did the same thing to my JD deck a few years ago. It really did not hold up. I think it is because of the constant whir of the blades kicking up dust and dirt particles, along with the grass; and it all acts as an abrasive. I suppose if you did it several times over a season, however, it would help protect. Keeping the grass from sticking to the underside is really the key. Acids and moisture from sticking grass are the real culprit.
