Some follow-up to my own question:
Went over to a Husqavarna dealer to look at what they had to offer. The LS series is definitely a better line of tractors than what is going thru Sears. I am almost sold on the 2754GLS. Decks are all 12 gauge and look much more durable. Uses B&S Endurance V-Twin, 27hp, 54" deck, hydro. Offered at what looks like a fair price. They also offer yard tractors with Kawasaki engines, but smaller deck, which won't work for me.
Also, went to a local John Deere dealer in Ct. to look at X300; interesting conversation with owner. They are switching to Husqvarna exclusively after 25 yrs as a JD dealer. Very upset with JD quality and treatment of them as dealer, and of customers; very enthusiastic with Husqvarna products and committment. Doing a total switchover in sales and service. This strengthened my belief that Husqvarna may be the right direction to go.
