Hi Joe: I don't know if this will help but I have a craftsman 5000 that has that same problem. I correct this by spraying WD-40 on the linkage just at the rear end. This system isn't the best and relies on the fact that everything needs to be clean and dust free. I need to do this at least once a season. Hope this helps. Ron B
