I can think of several things that may have caused rod breaking 1-crank worn & needed to be ground & an under size rod installed 2-con rod cap bolts not tightened to spec & they loosened up or the most common cause of premature rod failure incorrect assembly of rod & piston or same installed in eng facing the wrong way,this is why it's important to have the repair manual or cd,before going to dealer yelling I would disassemble eng & confirm rod & piston assembled correctly & installed in eng with arrow or id mark facing the right way,goto web address below & read part about rod/piston assembly,this is a scanned page from tecumseh repair cd,I think it got to post site,had to upgrade to a new browser & haven't gotten whole thing setup yet.
