You can get the year of manufacture off of the motor if it is a Briggs and Stratton..On the fan shroud there is a model number which in your case should be a 6 digit number, then a code number which should be 7 digits, then a type number which should be 4 digits then a slash then 3 digits. The first two numbers of the code number are the year the motor was assembled. this is only true for B+S motors.
Some craftsman lawn tractors use the tecumseh motor while others use a craftsman engine that was in fact manufactured by Briggs and Stratton for Craftsman. The Tecumseh engine uses a different code format and includes tha last number of the year of manufacture.
