: Marc,
Your plans for the present and future should get you thinking "garden" tractor, not "lawn" tractor. Don't neglect Kubota. A productive, trouble-free life for their machines is 20+ years.
Think "more" rather than "less" tractor when you make your decision.
: I have owned a lawn tractor for 13yrs, and it just crapped out on me. The cost of fixing it was close to the cost of a new tractor - so you can guess the out come.
: I recently purchased a Sears 20hp V-Twin B&S, Pressurized lube, Auto for less than 1200, Brand New. (Gotta look for the deals - Gatta Goes)
: Anyway, I guess what I telling ya is that 5-10yrs down the line is a long time - period. Models always get updated, new features are always added, and prices seem to always go down. I agree that there is a difference in quality of construction and such so there are better products out there. Remember, just becuase is cost $$$$$ more, doesn't make it a better product.

: : Andy, I mispoke, I meant to remove fallen trees, not pull one out! I also intend to use the tractor to plow a driveway in the future and my wife and I will probably be purchasing a 5 acre lot with 2-3 acres of grass within the next 5-10 years. My goal is to purchase a tractor that can last me 20 years and meet my anticipated needs. I do not invision myself using the tractor for ground-engaging activities per se and my current lot is almost too small for the machines I have mentioned, so I am trying to avoid going too far over the top.
: : I was told by a John Deere saleman that the Sabre 1948 (equivalent to the Scotts S2048) is a two-year-old JD garden tractor and that he would recommend it over the LX or LT series JDs. In light of that I think I am leaning in that direction but I have not yet seen the Yardman model. I had seen one of their law tractors and was impressed with the chassis construction but have heard that they may chince on some of the mechanical "bits" that when they break, can cause a serious headache.
