From a Cub Mechanic ...
MTD makes Cub and over 80% of all lawn mowers. Husky and Sears are made by AYD or something like that. If you remember the old saying,"You get what you pay for!", it will ring true here. Here's Cub Cadet in a nutshell.
LT = Lawn Tractor
1000 series = belt driven constant velocity transmission.
2000 series = shaft driven aluminum transaxle
3000 series = shaft driven cast iron transaxle.
Cub uses cast iron fron axles on all models. Check out you Sears (or others) for their stamped tin front axles than due crack alot. Check out the sturdy Cub deck spindle housings versus the thinly cast pop metal on the others. I am not a salesman and I don't own a new one. I owned Cubs prior to becoming a Cub tech.
