I'm not sure about the Hydro gear, I have an ltx1000 as well. All craftsman mowers have a safety device that lets the brake off on a steep hill. Don't know why, but my buddy has a craftsman as well and his does the same thing as mine. I was actually trying to find out how to change the mowing blades.
