Is your warning about all John Deere tractors? I suspect you are refering to the "L" series available at dealers and Home Depot. Deere decided to go after the portion of the market represented by inexpensive machines sold at big box stores. This market is driven by low prices, and to match the prices of the other discount brands, Deere had to keep costs down on these machines. So does Cub Cadet on the 1000 series sold at Lowe's. There is no way Deere (or anyone else for that matter) could build something like the old legendary 318 for $1499. Lawn and garden tractors are marketed at various price levels, from $799 to over $12,000, and essentially you get what you pay for. If your needs are not met by the Deere machines at Home Depot, I would suggest that you check out the "LT", "GT", "GX" and "X" series available only at your local Deere dealer. The same is true of Cub Cadet. I believe Lowe's does not sell the Cub 2500, 3000, 5000, 6000, 7000 series machines, and you would have to check them out at your Cub dealer. There are awsome tractors still being made by many manudfacturers, as good or better than the best of the machines made in the "old days", but they are not available at a discount store, and cost more than $1499.
