No. You either have a hydrostatic OR a manual transaxle. Craftsman does refer to their current hydrostatic models as "automatic", so no worries their, they are true hydro. on all current equiped craftsman models and not the cheaper varitor drive "autos" (like MTD varieties use). For a beginner unit, a JD "L" series is a good buy for the $. They are using tuff-torq hydro transaxles in those, which are good units.
