Scotts was the Home Depot house brand around 1996 and made by Murray. I have a 20hp 50" and it's a great tractor. Towards 2001 Scotts was made by John Deere.
I think the EZ way to tell is if the fuel tank is right behind the engine it's a Murray. If the fuel tank is in the rear it's a JD.
