Thanks for your help Farmm.
I have investigated further. The tractor appears to be a very old model. I live in Australia so perhaps we got a different model to overseas models?
I have found the PTO gear lever actually has 3 position selections which appear to provide 3 speeds at the PTO. not sure which one is 540RPM so I assume it is that labeled '1'.
The only lever on the left hand side under the seat is a long lever (about 400mm) pivoted right at the bottom of the transmission case. It has 2 position selections, and they do not appear to alter the low range-high range gear ratio. I think it may have something to do with switching in 2 wheel or 4 wheel drive but I cannot prove this (not sure how to as yet!).
The top of the gear box adjacent to the gearbox gear lever has embossed R, and 1, 2, 3 & 4, and beside these embossed numbers are, respectively 5,6,7,8. This made me think that perhaps I should 'lift' the gear lever or something similar to select the different low-high range ratios. No such luck! I just get 4 speeds and that is it.
There appears to be no other levers etc. that will allow low range-high range selection.
I am at a loss. Sorry. Any additional help or advice would be gratefully received.
Thanks. Fred
