I have heard the noise could be from carbon deposits in the head or a fuel injector, if it did not leak oil before the valve adjustment then the cover gasket was not put on right. OH Where to find good help. Tell us what you find.
The losing power thing makes me think injector, this is easily a owner installed thing. The carbon may burn itself away or you may need to remove head.
