For a 40 amp inline fuseable link to blow like
you stated, there would have to be a direct short in the wiring some where. Like the wires
rubbing against a metal object and causing the
short. Examine the wire harnass from the blown
fuse link all the way to each connection. If you
don't find a short, then look at the wires past
the connections, like from the switch to the area
the rest of the harnass runs. To test if the short is from the fuse link to the switch, install a inline fuse, if it blows as soon as
you hook it up then the problem will be from the
blown fuse area to the switch or other items. If
the fuse doesn't blow untill you turn the switch
on, then the problem will be from the switch to
what ever is feed from that point, like lights
or gauges.
