Took the fuel tank out, pressure washed it. A bunch of junk came out, including the long lost washer for the fuel cap. Also replaced the fuel lines to the filter housing, flushed that out with carb cleaner.
Only had a chance to run it for 20 minutes but that seems to have eliminated the problem. I was able to bleed the system per shop manual with no problems this time and she's running much smoother now.
