So I was hoping to find other engines to fit in my L2550 since remannig the engine is $1500-$2000 plus the core charge and the frieght. The engine in the L2550 has a crack in the block, the bearings were spun, and it needs a new crank shaft. Oh and the guy burned up my brand new clutch! I bought a L2850 with a broken bell housing because the bell housing on the L2550 is the same part mumber. I was going to replace the bell housing and sell the other tractor for parts. But alas when we took it apart it was not the bell housing as it appeared, it was the transmission case. An arm off the clutch went right through the wall of the case (it didn't come with the pieces.) So no tractor! I can get a case for it but the idea of taking apart the transmission is a little daunting. And I have not been able to find a whole transmission.
When I bought the L2850 I was told it had a 4 cylinder engine, but like I said I can't read the number off the engine and I can't get a tracing off it. I was hoping I could maybe get the engine to fit in the L2550 seeing how bell housings are already the same.
I have tried dealers they are altogether unhelpful. I called everyone around here about bell housings, finally some dealer in Colorado helped me with the part number and I live in Pennsylvania.
Thanks, Laura
