The oil doesn't seem to have coolant/water in it, or vice-a-versa, so I don't expect that there's a head gasket problem.
The engine actually runs very nicely, with no unexpected noises.
The water is overflowing from the overflow tube, but this does not occur until after the engine overheats. I purchased a water pump. Since it's 200 miles, I decided to go ahead and buy it before removing the old one. Then if I don't need it, I can return.
From everything I can find, I think the fins on the water pump will be gone. I'm not used to a water pump failing without leaks and/or bearing noises, but found many posts on the 'net where this was the case on Kubota tractors. So, that's what I expect to find.
