In Reply to: L2050 overheating and apparently high oil pressure posted by Larry Boyd on Monday, August 24, 2009:
If oil was flowing out the dipstick tube,
hopefully with engine off. That doesn't mean
high oil pressure. It means most likely coolant
is entering the oil and raising the level. If
the engine was running when you pulled the dip
stick, then yep you could get oil flowing out
the tube, that would be normal. None of the
symptoms you described indicate high oil pressure. In fact a 20 year old engine with
a few problems just might have low oil pressure.
I've never heard of oil causing a over heat
problem as you describe. I think if you had a
oil problem the engine would by now be dead
or knocking. Seems to me you need to think
toward the cooling system a little more than
oil problems. However when this is repaired you
should change oil again because it may be
contaminated, or broken down from over heat.
If the engine was off when you pulled the dip
stick and got a flow out the tube, also look
for a stopped up engine crank case breather,
that will cause air pressure in the block and
blow out oil. If it has a water pump pull it
for a check and see thing. If it's in good shape
then start looking at a blown head gasket.
What you described sounds more like a blown
head gasket to me than any of the other problems
mentioned.
GOOD LUCK
