In Reply to: L2050 overheating and apparently high oil pressure posted by Larry Boyd on Monday, August 24, 2009:

First question, is it a pressurized water system with no overflow tank?. Then it will spit out the excess through the overflow tube until it reaches the right radiator level usually just above the radiator fins. If you don't have a gauge then you really don't know if it overheats. If you keep topping off the water level the cycle starts all over again. If you took the dipstick out when running you may get an oil bath.
Leak on top of block transmission? Valve cover gasket? Unlikely too high oil pressure, but then again without a gauge how do you know. A temporary gauge can be hooked up to verify.
After all tests fail, it could be a bad head gasket.

A diesel is no different than a gas engine of the 50's or 60's.
