Did you peer down the fill plug hole before you drained. The oil level should have been visible. About 1/2 full. Could it have just 1.5 gallons in it? No leaks, maybe it was not filled up before, bad idea. As long as it is working now, new 7.5 gallons will do the trick. Hope no harm done with the low oil level.
