Yes,
I compeleted that step before posting, and I was amazed at how much stuff came out. Just to be clear I have replaced the thermostat, cleaned between the fins, replaced the hoses, had a hole in the radiator fixed, and made sure the fan belt was tight. Probably should have said that up front.
