I had a similar experience with a 2350. If the ground cable does not have a good connection on the frame the starter will try to establish a ground through any wire it can. The current the starter draws is too much for any small wire causing the small wire to overheat. The solution is to clean the contact point on the frame and install a star washer between the cable and the frame. The star washer will bite into the cable and the frame helping to make a good connection.
